Space-dyeing or dip dyeing (sometimes thought of as faux ikat) is a fun, non-technical, loosely controlled way to color your warp threads before weaving. Using Jacquard liquid red label dyes, the class will do some dye sampling and color theory dabbling. Students will design, wind, and space dye warps for weaving one project.
Level of experience required: Students need to be comfortable calculating and winding warps on their own.
Student Equipment Requirements:
- Warping board
- Silk yarn put up on cones or in balls/cakes ready to wind into warps (enough for the student’s project plus extra (around 100 yards) for sampling
- Scissors, note taking materials, colored pencils and graph paper (or other?) tools for designing multi-warp project, color inspiration (pictures, for example)
- Calculator
